    Hi there.
    .
I have most of my master movies in ProRes HQ, since i read that ProRes i a Lossless codec, i edit, grade and do compositing using the same codec. The Master clip that i export is ProRes too. So, my question is, should i also export an “uncompressed 4:2:2 10 bit” movie or it’s useless because the ProRes movie is High Quality enough?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joan.

    Hi Joan,
Although Prores is not fully losseless, it can undergoes a few re-compressions without degradation.
You don’t have to worry and can skip 10b Unc.
I only use 10b Unc, some times, for very short things that, after Color, I send to to Motion and back to FC, and to do that i ill start to use Prores 444 as soon as I install FC7.
    Cheers,
    Rafael

So then i guess that the right way to do would be stay ProRes all the way and use ProRes 4444 only for mastering or transferring to AE, for example, right?

The only real lossless process is when we export to 444 Uncompress.
When we export to 10b Uncompress,(422) we lost half of the color.
Prores 444 introduce a bit of compression, but avoid the color down-sampling and this is more important to keep the quality of the stuff.
If you add the difference in files size, there is no much doubt.
