Flash (FLV) missing from export options
Posted by Elizabeth Bridenstine on January 20, 2010 at 12:49 amI’m not sure when this change took place, but I used to be able to export files as Flash from Final Cut Pro (I have version 5.1.4).
Today, I went to File, Export, Using Quicktime Conversion, and Flash was missing from the list of file names.
Any ideas?
Thank you,

Make sure that you have the “FLV Export Component” in Main/Library/QuickTime.

January 20, 2010 at 3:48 amI noticed that my g5, which has Adobe Production Premium CS3 has the FLV export option. The Macbook Pro (Intel) has CS4 and no export to FLV. I use Squeeze on that machine. It looks like Adobe killed the component (?).

However you can just drop the component in your Intel’s QT folder.

The Flash option from QuickTime Conversion is also missing in my desktop, which has FCP 7/Adobe CS4.
In my laptop, which is running FCP 6/Adobe CS3 and CS4, I see:
Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/FLV.component.But I can’t find a file with that name on my (FCP7/CS4) desktop. Any suggestions?

January 23, 2010 at 2:46 amHi Bob,
If the FLV is not available there are two possible reasons:
– The component is not installed.
– QT is not able to read the component.
It seems that the issue happens only in computers with FC7. But I don’t think is an FC issue. FC have nothing to see with the FLV component.
Do you have Snow Leopard and the new QT installed in your desktop computer?

January 23, 2010 at 4:36 amThere is another piece of CS4 called Adobe Media Encoder. I’ve made Quicktime movies of my files, and created a batch there to create the Flash movies. So far it seems to be working beautifully.
Which is good, because the alternative is not working at all. I tried copying over the FLV.component file from my laptop (which has CS3 and CS4) onto my desktop (CS4 only), into the Library/Quicktime folder (same place it is on the laptop).
The Flash video option shows up now in the Quicktime Conversion list, but when I choose Options, customize, and start the render, I get the spinning beachball and eventually have to kill FCP. One time that led to a panic attack shutdown of the computer.
I thought I had done a complete Flash installation when I added CS4 to the desktop. Does anyone have CS4 and a Flash option inside their Quicktime Conversions list? Or is Adobe Media Encoder the way to go now?
Thanks!

But this works exactly with same FLV Component that, in fact, is the only piece needed for exporting to Flash.
For me that sounds all as an issue with SL or the new QT.
Another possibility is that somewhere, there is another FLV Component (may be embed somewhere) that is causing a conflict.
You should enquire in any Flash related site.
BTW, why are you using FLASH?
Whatever thing that goes to be played with Flash, can be done in QT (H264).
I see the need of Flash export, only if they require you the Flash codecs.

January 23, 2010 at 2:24 pmBob,
My MBP has FC 6, Leopard, CS4 and no Flash export. So, to me it appears that it was CS4 that got rid of the component. But it’s possible that some other update or installation did it. I also have Sqeeze 5 on the machine, which is what I use to make Flash.

Thanks for responding to my post, I had accidently not set up to receive notifications when someone responded so I just saw that you had commented. The “FLV Export Component” is missing in the Main/Library/QuickTime folder. How can i get it there?
Thank you!
