Timecode mismatch on FCP export to quicktime
I’ve been exporting quicktime movies of sections of a timeline in FCP 6.0.6. The timeline is 24P(23.98) (dvcproHD 720P60). I’m doing straight QT exports with the added option of making a self contained file.
When i open these QT’s in QT 7.6.3 I’m finding that the starting timecode is off by 4:14. So for example, i exported a clip that started at 01:16:18:18 in my FCP timeline and the exported QT has a starting timecode of 01:16:14:04.
anyone know what could be causing this?

First clue would be you say you have DVCPro 720P60 and your timeline is 24P(23.98).
Is the footage from Tape or P2?

The footage was all shot DVCPro 100 to tape.
This is the area that FCP tends to get frustrating for me due to there being a myriad of possible settings. I created a project and then brought in the footage and when I then started bringing clips into my timeline FCP prompted me to change the timeline settings to match the footage. And so that’s what I did.
So my timeline settings are set for an editing timebase of 23.98 and with a compressor setting of DVCPro720P60.
Is it the timeline settings that are causing the mismatch?

This /may/ be a bug I noticed with changing timeline settings after media has already been added. Try creating a new, empty timeline (with settings that match the current one). Copy and paste your media from the old timeline into the new one and re-export.

Shazam! That’s it. My timecode numbers remain in sync by creating a new sequence with the same settings and then copying my old sequence into it.

AFAIK, 23.98 timelines can’t be set to “drop frame.” (at least in my copy of FCP 6 here at home). But I have noticed this bug pops up if you change a 29.97 timeline from DF to NDF while it has media in it. The workaround is the same: copy the timeline contents into a new, empty timeline.

You are right, no DF in 23.976 (i refuse the term 23.98 cause it is incorrect and has caused enough trouble already)Nevertheless, the difference is a typical DF / NDF difference.
