Strange crop when changing sequence setting
Hi all,
I’ve never had this problem before and can’t find any posts relating to it.
Basically, I have DVCPRO footage which creates an unrendered sequence if FCP automatically matches the settings, and when I get change it to become “rendered” (green lines along the timeline) the video becomes cropped.
There are no motion attributes changed, FCP seems to be ignoring a large chunk of the frame…
Here are the specifics:
1. Started with r3d files, put into RedRushes using the only dvcpro preset listed (720p60)
2. Ended up with movs that says dvcpro 720p60 960×720, but Quicktime says “Normal Size: 2048 x 1152”, which I believe is the usual 2k resolution?
3. When allowing FCP to configure the sequence settings, it chooses:
Compressor: DVCPRO HD 720p60
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Frame Size: 2048 x 1152 (Custom 16:9) anamorphic offThe video looks right, it has no distortion or scale BUT the timeline is all red and there are virtually no options in the playback pulldown menu.
4. To get the timeline into green mode, I changed it to:
Frame Size: 960 x 720 (HD(950×720) 16:9) anamorphic onThe video still looks right ie. no squashing, though I had to scale it to 47%. But now there is a letterbox because the video is cropped to something even wider than 2:1.
Any ideas?
My plan is to continue editing today and set up RedRushes to output ProRes but it would be nice to continue with dvcpro as there are 20+ layers in the edit.
Also, the colours are weird…very saturated and dramatic shifts in warmth. Not critical as grading will be done on raw files, but is that normal for dvcpro?
Many thanks,
Clara
