You can’t do it in prefs – you have to do it on a comp-by-comp basis. But it’s easy. You should set up a preset effect using levels and hue/sat, then apply it to an adjustment layer over the comp. After you’ve set it up once, for each comp to render, it’s:
    1) layer>new adjustment layer
    2) animation>apply effect preset.
    Two clicks.

BTW, levels should generally be 16-235, and your reds should be desaturated, with your yellows moved a little toward orange. You should run a couple of tests by your scopes (at the end of the workflow) before you finalize the preset.

    Anybody else?

I agree with that, and make sure to view your work through an NTSC monitor. You’ll be amazed at the difference of working in AE on a CRT and how your work appears on a calibrated monitor . . . in addition to live and action areas and how your titles and graphics fit. I can’t stress enough the importance of having your work viewed on a monitor.

Also, make sure your comp dimensions are correct for broadcast.

    Good luck.
