I realized i mispelled MXF in my original post so hopefully this one will get some responses…I did a search i nthis forum and read a few threads but I am still a little confused / concerned about this workflow.

    SO

I am receiving footage from two Iconix lip stick cams consisting of two different file forms. One cam has MXF files and one has quicktime files.

The tech split it out since he wasn’t sure how we were editing. He informed me about this yesterday, rather than discussing on the shoot day. Will we be able to load all this into our system and what would you guys advise?

    thank you

You need to ask what codecs were used to produce the different files. For instance, if the MXFs are DVCProHD, FCP will transfer these files easily. Same is true of the QT files. If they use a FCP codec, you simply copy them to your drive and import them. If both use the same codec (like DVCProHD) the files will be of equal quality.

MXF is simply a container. What do the files actually look like?

What do you mean by what does it look like?!

[Sean Kapleton] “What do you mean by what does it look like?! “

Sorry, should have been more specific. What’s the file structure? Take a screen grab of one of the MXF files in your finder and post it here.

If you are allowed and file size permits, can you upload one of the smallest MXF files? I can tell you if MXF4mac works on these files.

If you want to take this offlist, hit me up at editstation at gmail dot com

    Sorry for the late response

the smallest file i have is something like 130 mb so i’m guessing that doesn to make sense?!

what about bringing it into avid and exporting uncompressed 10 bit qt’s?

i just tried it actually and i get error messages in avid – i’m thinking to post i nthat forum now too wit hthese screen grabs to see what Avid peeps think

    any thoughts?

    thanks
