    hi
    1) inorder to capture HD footage directly into your comp using the ProRes codec do i need to have hardware support? which is the best harware device?

2)if have already captured HD footage in the HD format, but i want to work on the timeline with a ProRes format, do i have to export all my footage using the ProRes codec, and then import it back to my project? or how does one work with ProRes without actually having captured in that format?

    thanks
    mahesh

What format are you capturing from? To get ProRes from HDV you can do it over FireWire.

    1) Kona, BlackMagic and Matrox all make devices that will capture with ProRes. HDV footage can be captured to ProRes via Firewire.

2)If you have footage previously captured with another codec just drop it into a ProRes timeline and edit away.
