Go easy on the n00b…it’s my first post *cracks open virtual champagne*…

Anyway, I work on short form projects and regularly use the media manager – which despite what I’ve read after a quick scan on this forum seems to work okay for me.

I usually use media captured from tape… until recently when I started using 50 minute QT files… Now despite whatever settings I use (handles etc) the MM project is the total size of all the media combined instead of only the media used in the sequence/project. I have tried this on FCP 5 and FCP 6 with the same result. I can’t get it to work. I think that it might be something to do with reel IDs…

Does anyone know how I can archive a project where the source material originated as QT files and not tapes?

    Thanks

Give them REEL numbers. The Media Manager doesn’t break big clips into smaller ones if they don’t have a reel number, like Music, graphics…and QT imports.

Thanks a lot for the response Shane, I’ll give it a try.

Someone else (not on this forum) recommended me the same thing, and specified that the reel numbers need to be kept short due to the amount of characters allowed in the code – although I’m not sure if that is correct, as I usually use reel IDs of up to 10 characters…

    Thanks again,

    Finn
