Hi, just added ram to our 2008 oct mac pro, to help boost work on FCP, had 4gb (4x 1gb sticks, 2 in each side) replaced these with 4 x 4gb sticks in same sockets and moved the 4x 1gb stick over to the empty sockets. Under ‘this mac’ it now shows as 20gb ram (phew!!) but when I go into FCP6 settings and try to up the memory usage it remains at 2gb max (100%), I assumed originally that it could only use ram from 1 ram socket (ie with 2gb of the original 4gb installed). How do I get it to access more of the ram??

This might be a stupid question, I just might be being thick!!

    cheers
    John

Fcp can only access that much ram due to it’s 32bit infrastructure. It will need to be rewritten to 64 bit to take advantage of more RAM.
