    Cant say what you are doing wrong as we don’t know what your settings are in compressor.

    There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

    I tried a direct export in FCP with Export > Using Quicktime Conversion. But I’m not seeing the ‘squish’ you’re seeing. There must be some Compressor setting that’s causing this squish. Probably in the ‘Geometry’ section where sizing is set.

    Hey Neil,

    I tried a direct export in FCP with Export > Using Quicktime Conversion too, and it looks perfect! So it’s obvious I’m doing something wrong in Compressor. So now I have a couple questions.

    1. Is it okay to use QT Conversion for all my exports? Or should I always use Compressor
    2. I’m using H.264 because I hear that’s the best for trimming file size while retaining good quality. Is that recommended?

    In general, Compressor will do a much better job of scaling than QT. You need to turn Frame Controls on and select Best for the scaling quality. Also, I recall a couple of posts on the best file to provide for upload to Vimeo and You Tube using Compressor. A search will turn them up.

    Try trashing your compressor preference file and then try it again.

    There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
    Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!
