  • FCP timeline exported to Quicktime: footage jumps

Posted by Scott Wagner on May 27, 2009 at 5:20 am

I shot a short documentary on a Canon HV30 in 30p. When I export it to quicktime and watch the video it jumps in several spots. The footage does not look this way on the timeline or in the canvas, so there is something wrong with the export. I have tried almost everything (I think) and it still jumps.

These are my settings (although I have tried others as well)
    H.264
    Frame rate: Current
    Key frames: 30
    Data Rate: 5500 kbits/sec
    Dimensions: 1280×720

Here is a link to the footage:
    https://vimeo.com/4604597

Places where it jumps (a few examples): 00:44, 03:05, 03:08

If anyone has seen this before and has a better workflow that they would like to share, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Scott

I saw a post a few weeks back with a similar problem. I think the solution was to trash the render files (using Render Mgr) and re-render. You might search to find that thread.

So thanks for your advice, I tried your suggestions and some of the footage stopped jumping, but when I took away the subtitles from the footage and exported it without the subtitles, the problem seemed to go away entirely. I need to have subtitles for these short docs, so would you have any suggestions as to why these texts above the footage make it jump when exported? Thanks again for your help.
