Hi, I hope someone can’t point me in the right direction. It seem I’m having Difficulties finding out the best was to do what I’m doing. I Have SD footage that was shot on HVx 200.. The footage is 720×480 Squeezed or 16:9. Instead of using the gears on my Hvx to ingest footage I’m using a small cannon hand held. My question is When I ingest this way what is the best Fcp settings? I’m having problems with the finishes result after I edit and render out the footage. I’m getting low quality using the dvpro compresson. However when I use the H.264 everything is better but some where down the road I’m losing quality. The final out come will to have the footage on DVD and the internet. The ingesting part using the canon I have done before with great results. I’m looking for a simple clean effective way to ingest SD footage. I did ask the camera man if he shot 24p or 24pa. He said 24p.. So when I set up my project sequence to 23.98 I enter a clip into the editor and a message comes up saying I need a correct sequence match for video format. Hmm I click yes to change settings to match footage. Please can someone tell me what is the cleanest way to ingest footage in this manner.

24P DV is 29.97 on tape. HVX in SD on tape is DV
injest DV/DVCpro NTSC anamorphic. firewire basic for the canon

Ok, I’ve done this . Now I set my sequence setting In Fcp to be 29.97, lower field, 16:9 interlaced, Lower field dv/dvcpro compression on 100% quality.. I export using quick time conversion on the best setting ntsc dv/dvpro. It doesn’t look good. I export using h.264 and it looks fine. .. Now I’ve done this several times in the past exporting with ntsc dv/dvcpro and never had this problem. Could it be possible that I ingest the footage wrong? I looking to understand why the Dv/Dvcpro export using quick time conversion is doing this. Now to be honest I did ingest the footage using the hand held canon with fcp capture setting ntsc fire wire with advanced pulldown. could this be the real problem. If so why does it look great using the h.264 export?

why are you using qt conversion. Just export “use current setting”
If you need to generate other formats drop your export into compressor, it’s much cleaner and faster on a multicore machine
