I made a lightsaber video in after effects and everything is fine, but not the exporting. The file was in widescreen, but now is in full screen. I’ve watched the original video and it still has the black bars, but when I saved it with the effects the bars are gone.

Basically how do I save the video with the effects and keep everything looking how it was uploaded?

How and to what did you export your video?

DV widescreen is still 720×480 using “non-square” pixels. The widescreen image is squeezed in to the frame, preserving the full vertical resolution. When played back, you would have to “unsqueeze” it stretching the sides back out.

If you were to make a DVD, there is a 16×9 “flag” that would be set during the encoding to indicate to the DVD player that this is widescreen and it would do the unsqueezing for you.
