April 22, 2009 at 1:50 pmThis may be due to many things happening….
The economy is in the toilet…. business is down for lots of folks… and Apple is trying to survive this period. Meaning that the ProApps really aren’t broken so let’s not put alot into it at this moment. Apple hasn’t abandoned us, just hasn’t put much forth in the way of new development.
I may be wrong… but more than likely, you’ll hear about upgrade sometime around MacWorld or whenever Apple feels like saying something.
Its sad to say this… but NAB doesn’t quite carry the weight anymore since the popularity of the Internet. Forums like the COW have really made companies think about their presence at trade shows. We discuss more about their products than they could. Better explainations and much more thorough testing in the real world situations.
That’s my two cents…

April 22, 2009 at 3:44 pmI think the most likely explanation is that they are waiting on the release of Snow Leopard. I think that Apple has been working on the ProApps for a while and they are designing them to take advantage of all the major rewriting that is supposed to be happening in Snow Leopard. Or they’re gonna release next week.

April 22, 2009 at 4:00 pmGoogle “Snow Leopard Release” and you’ll find a few predictions that it will come out June 8th for the keynote of the WWDC.
My understanding (from the rumor mill) is that Snow Leopard includes a whole new flavor of Quicktime and since FCP is a Quicktime application there’s not much to release until then.

April 22, 2009 at 4:59 pmMy hope is that Apple has finally re-written all the apps from the ground up to fix things like Media Management and increase the speed of everything across the board, so the theory of waiting until Snow Leopard makes sense.
And of course with Apple’s usual secrecy they would never tell us anything like that in advance, making events like NAB less and less useful for the NLE community.

April 22, 2009 at 6:00 pmThe only thing I don’t like about the Snow Leopard FCS3 relation is that Snow Leopard is supposedly Intel only. We still have 2 G5s that do a good majority of our grunt work around here. Oh well maybe this will be motivation for getting new Mac Pros.

April 22, 2009 at 8:02 pm[Devin Crane] “Oh well maybe this will be motivation for getting new Mac Pros.”
Meanwhile in some darkened office at Apple someone is rubbing their hands together and muttering, “Our sinister plan is WORKING.”
Or as someone from another NLE company said, only HALF joking, “Sure FC Studio is cheap, but it requires a $3,000 Dongle.”

Intels have been around something like 2 going on 3 years now. One thing about Apple is there comes a certain point where they no longer support certain machines when it comes to the ProApps. I’m sure Snow Leopard will be Intel only and it will be time for the Pro Users to step and upgrade if they want to go to the latest software. makes sense honestly. Especially if Studio 3 turns out to be a complete re-write to finally take full advantage of the 64 bit OS.

April 23, 2009 at 7:07 amWalter, I never thought that I’d hear you speculate about a re-write of FCP:) I’m right with you though. I don’t think the current program is ready for the changes that will happen over the next 10 years. FCP really isn’t coming close to using the computers it has now, nor will a basic update change that.
