Made a big mistake. Opened up clients project. Got the message saying FCP had to update the project to newer version. Accidently hit save and overwrote project file.

Is their anyway to revert this or make it backwards compatible so director can open it? I believe they were on an earlier version of FCP6 since it was done in Pro Rez.

I have a feeling I’m royally F*&^ed and will have to give them an updated copy of FCP.

First, backup the client’s Autosave directory. Then locate the newest autosave file that exists before the project type was changed, and see where that gets you.

You can try exporting a XML file which the earlier version of FCP should be able to open.

This doesn’t make sense to me

I’m on FCP 6.0.4 so they must’ve had saved the project file on a slightly earlier version since I see Pro Rez files. If I remember correctly. Pro Rez was released in FCP6 (FCS2).

Maybe it won’t be a big deal for him to upgrade. I’ll let him know what happened. I’ll have to bite the bullet and be more careful next time.

Yep, it was. It means that they need to do a free upgrade, although the most current upgrade is 6.0.5.
