I am trying to open several old FCP projects however, they all crash. (The projects open; I see all the media and timelines and then the project crashes. I am told: “The application Final Cut Pro has unexpectedly quit”.) I have tried opening various older FCP project files both small and large and the same thing happens. I have tested my FCP program. It works fine. I’ve imported media and created a test file; it works fine.

So I mailed one of these ‘crashing’ FCP projects to a friend and he was able to open it on his FCP system. However, he has a much higher version of FCP. I am still working on FCP 4.5 because of my old quicktime files. He doesn’t know how to email me back a project file I can use on 4.5.

Can you suggest a way to solve this problem?

    Thanks!

    Alison,

It is my understanding that technically that can be done but Apple does not support backwards compatibility. Is there a specific reason you have not upgraded your QT and FCP?
your QT files Should still work with newer versions.
