  • multi-point gradient along a mask?

    Hi all,

I’m trying to apply a bit of a gradient to a 3D stroke layer that is wrapping around an object, to give a little bit of fake lighting/depth to the stroke…I ideally want to be able to get 3 or more points along the stroked mask from black to white, but ramp and 4-colour gradient are not working, because I need the gradiations to follow the mask.

Is there a simple solution to this I’m just not seeing?

    Thanks.

Thanks Dave, I was thinking of trying CC Cylinder, but I’ve a feeling I’m not going to be able to do what I want with it and I may have to pass it onto our Lightwave guy. Here’s what I need to do – if you have any suggestions that’d be great! :-

I’ve got a shot of someone sat in an armchair and the shot is slowly tracking around the subject and pulling out at the same time. The client wants some text to come out from behind the chair and flow around infront of the subject, like a kind of 3D ribbon made of text (yep that old chestnut) I was trying it with 3D stroke for a test anyway, but I’d have to find a way of replacing that with text anyhow..

I don’t think the shot will need tracking, as the text isn’t actually attached to anything, so can probably cheat it’s position. I’d usually pass off the 3D to someone else, but I just wanted to see if I could do it (fairly quickly and so it’s editble) in AE? I’ve seen various tutes on here for ribbon text, but nothing that really suits and moving object..I thought maybe expressions, but that just looks like a world of pain!

    Any ideas guys?

    Cheers.
