Wierd DVCPROHD codec issues
So-
It’s pretty clear that their are some serious issues working cross-platform with the infamous DVCPROHD codec. That being said, I have a strange issue.
I am trying to avoid this whole problem by simply converting to Animation codec in Quicktime Pro. However any time that I attempt to convert OUT of the original codec, I get seven strange gray boxes placed across the frame. I thought i knew something about codecs, but this is WAYYY beyond me. Any ideas, thanks in advance,

Infamous? I’ve delivered almost 100 HD Network shows using that codec. There’s nothing wrong with DVCPro HD and Final Cut Pro.
Working cross platform will be an issue with any codec. The Animation codec is NOT an editing codec.

Hi Brian,
It sounds like you’re using a Demo Version of our Calibrated{Q} DVCProHD Decode codec – that’s the Demo watermark pattern that you are describing.

Hi Brian,
Just delete the Calibrated folder found in the /Applications directory and delete the CalibratedDVCProHDCodec.component in the /Library/QuickTime directory and restart.

Thanks Greg. Really Appreciate it! And for the record, I think that DVCPROHD is a great codec, I just wish it was available for use in compositing via after effects on both platforms, seeing as AE and FCP are pretty closely linked.

In reality they’re not. AE is closely linked to Premiere and the CS4 family. FCP is linked to Motion.
AE and FCP work together thanks to the hard work of Wes Plate and he Automatic Duck family.
Many of us who work with FCP also work heavily with AE, but I only work on one platform. If I had to create something for Windows I would render to whatever codec they were using or the Animation codec.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll keep that in mind next time I’m compositing with DVCPRO footage.

Hi Brian,
Even another thing to keep in mind is that beginning with CS4 – Premiere Pro CS4 can natively read DVCProHD QuickTime Movies (except for 1080p24, 1080p25, and 1080p30 DVCProHD QT movies) – I have not tried AE CS4 but I’m thinking it’s probably the same (or at least worth testing out)
