I need to make a dvcam tape of a 30 second commercial that we shot on the red camera.

    The master file is

    apple proress 422 2048×1024
    16b 48k audio

All of my renders look really bad. Like, worse than if we had shot it on minidv. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?> Ive tried compressor, fcp settings, etc.

hmm…what your export settings? Does RED record square pixels. You may need to make sure the export has non-square pixels. I’d look at that first.

And, are you checking the tape on a broadcast monitor as opposed to a computer monitor? I’ve down-converted DVCProHD to DVCPro 50, and it does look bad on the computer, but it looks fine on a broadcast monitor when I’m working in FCP.

    Hi Ben,
You have to crunch a lot of information, so try to set FC to do the task in the best possible conditions.
I guess you just had dropped the RED footage in an NTSC DV sequence. Isn’t?
Set your DV sequence with Field order: NONE.
Set “render all YUV material in High Precision” and “Motion Effects Rendering: BEST”.
This should help with crunching 422/10b-2K to DV.
    This process will take time.
However If you could capture the RED footage to DV through an AJA or BM you would get a better downconversion and in RT.
