    Hi
Can someone give some advice to a not-too-technical-gal please?!

I’m editing a 7 min video in Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and every time I try to ‘Print to Video’ it starts ok but then a minute or so in it stops and a box appears with the title:
    Aborted ETT/PTV – Dropped frames
Because one or more frames were dropped during Edit to tape/print to video this operation was aborted.
    If this occurs frequently try:
    -turning off unlimited RT
    -lowering your compression rate
    etc
    etc

Can anyone tell me please, in lay terms, how to fix this please?! Also, why is it doing this?! It’s happened occasionally in the past and this is first time it’s so bad.
    Thanks VERY much!
    Anna

This typically indicates that your media hard drives are not able to provide the throughput necessary to output at the required rate.

What video codec are you editing and trying to print to tape, and what is your hard drive setup on your Fcp system?

    Thanks for your response David.

    I am editing in Pal.
My Capture Settings-scratch disks are set to my Lacie external hard drive….all four of them are ticked in one line (Video capture, audio capture, video render & audio render ….though the tick under audio capture is grey). Is that wrong?
And minimum allowable free space on scratch disks, as i was advised, is set to 5000MB

I have not compressed the video.

What should I do to stop the stopping?!

    Thanks, Anna

PAL is not a codec Anna. I need to know if it’s DV or another video type. What deck are you using?

    Sorry!
It’s DV. I film using a Sony PD170 in Pal and capture the footage off my Sony MiniDVCAM player.
