    Hi all,

Running FCP 6 on a MacPro 8-core 2.8gHz. Media files are on an external Burly SATA tower.

I recently hooked an NTSC monitor up to my Black Magic card via SDI.

Audio through my NTSC monitor speaker is in perfect sync. While this is encouraging, I really want to monitor FCP audio through my external speakers.

The problem I am having is that when I switch my Audio Playback in the Audio/Video settings to my external speakers, sync gets thrown way out (both on the NTSC and my computer monitor).

I’m not at my system right now, but will be happy to provide any additional details if needed.

    Thanks,

    Bob

I would highly suggest connecting your speakers to the audio output of your decklink card (if you have analog audio out on that card).

    Three words: Audio Follows Video.

As Russell says, you need to connect your speakers to your decklink card. Preferable via some sort of mixer. Both Behringer & Mackie make good low end mixers, if there’s a Guitar Center near you they should have something in stock.

If a Decklink is like a Kona 3 card, you may only have AES audio coming out. I had this problem and purchased a Behringer Ultramatch Pro AES to analog convertor. This works great and I highly recommend it. Kona’s AES to the Ultramatch, from that I get balanced analog to my mixer that controls the audio monitors. This is also perfect for recording to an analog deck.

Thanks for all of the helpful responses.

Looks like some additional gear is on my horizon… just when I thought I was at the end of my spending spree.

Can anyone expound on why the sync would be so far out? I’m seeing anywhere from 8 to 30 frames sync difference (upon relaunching FCP) between audio and video. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency in sync loss.

    Thanks again,

    Bob
