Hi Fellas. Thanks for your patience here. it turns out It that there multiple still images which are the culprit. However they are ALL in a RGB color space as you suggested Shane. So I’m not sure what the problem is. All of these images play fine and look great in my EX1 sequence

Rafael and others have walked me through dragging my EX1 sequence in a SD timeline. I’ve learned that Copying and pasting the EX1 time line into a new SD sequence leaves all of the still images (of which there are many) too large and distorted in the SD timeline.

Is there a way to fix this the images so I don’t have to create new moves on each one again? I’d like to just drag the the EX1 sequence to an SD sequence and render.

As I said before, I get to abut 13% render completed before I get the codec not found message. That corresponds with the first still image. Thanks for your help here.

Export a self contained HD movie. Reimport that movie and put that in an SD timeline, or better yet, use Compressor to down convert if you need to down convert. Why do you need to down convert?

I’m trying to create a widescreen SD DVD. The original one I did for the clients’ trade show booth Played on plasma didn’t look as pristine as I thought it would. I’ve created a DVD directly from the EX1 timeline to compressor. I’m open to suggestions Jeremy. Can you explain how to export a self contained HD movie? When I tried to do that earlier today I had a squeezed 4X3 movie. It sounds like a good idea though.

    Thanks.

Are you shooting 720p or 1080i? What frame rate is your timeline?

it was shot in 1080i. My timeline framerate is 29.97

I just tried to render a SD timeline compressing it to 8 bit uncompressed, but got a message saying out of memory. Why would that be?

    Hi Greg,
Is difficult to try to figure out why you get the “Out of memory”.
Do what Jeremy suggest. Try to render your HD sequence first. Set it to ProRes and render in the time-line by bunches. Save after each piece have been rendered. Like that you can find out if there is anything in the sequence giving you the problems.
When you have all the HD sequence rendered, export a QT movie and bring it to an SD Anamorphic time-line.

OK Greg. You should just use Compressor for this in one go.

The trick is you have to render your fields properly. You need to export a reference movie (File > Export > Quicktime Movie) then choose a destination and leave make self contained and recompress all frames UNchecked. Once it’s done, then open compressor.

In compressor you can duplicate one of the widescreen DVD presets or make your own. In the video format in the ‘Encoder’ button, you should uncheck all the gears, and choose Video format NTSC, Frame Rate 29.97, Aspect ratio 16:9, FIeld Dominance Lower. Go the next button called Frame COntrols and turn those on, then click the gear and turn them on. Choose best quality for resize, output fields as lower (or bottom first), deinterlace leave at fast, and rate conversion leave as fast.

Apply this to your movie and hit submit. You might have to wait a little while depending on your machine and don’t forget to add an audio preset.

Why is exporting a reference file taking 2 hours? I thought it was just that a reference file? a pointer?

It quit on me and I got an out of memory warning.

Can you point me to the thread that Shane and Rafael helped you out? I don’t repeat their sage advice if I don’t need to.

I would delete your render files and try again.

Also, taking Rafael’s advice and rendering to ProRes would be a good thing to do.

Command-zero to bring up sequence settings and in the render control tab, change where it says COdec from same as sequence to Apple ProRes 422 [HDV, XDCAM HD/EX only]. Render and then try an export.
