  Can I capture Sony V1E tapes using a Sony V1U???

  Cross-posted from the HDV Forum because no one answers questions over there.

  A cameraman in the land of PAL is shooting some material for me at 1080 50i using his Sony V1E (European PAL model), will I be able to capture from his tape using my Sony V1U (NTSC model). I understand that I will need to capture PAL, the question is can I do it?

  Yes! No! I have no idea. I just htought I’d give you a response.

  My inclination is…maybe? Do you have a v1U? Can you put in 50Hz mode? If not, then no. If so, then yes!

  To further not clarify things…
  I did this in the TRV-900 DV era, using iMovie, which didn’t used to be so fussy about the incoming FW signal.
  With an NTSC tape in a PAL TRV-900E camcorder, I first connected an NTSC mode Canopus ADVC box to the computer, and got iMovie up and ready for NTSC capture, then hot-switched the FW cable to the camcorder in Play mode. Whereupon iMovie happily captured the tape.

  Of course iMovie these days would use AIC for HDV ingest, and I don’t know if it remains as standards-unfussy as it used to be…

  Good find Jeremy!!! So, looks like I can just borrow/rent my cameraman’s Z1 and I’ll be all set.
