  fcp exports stretching

  Hi

  When I export my sequence from FCP it renders out all stretched
  my current settings are
  Frame size: PAL 4:3 768×576
  compressor: apple pro res 422
  25fps
  pixel aspect ratio: PAL – CCIR 601 (720×576)
  Anamorphic: ticked on

  The original footage is 16:9

  In my sequence it looks right, as soon as I export it stretches. Am I missing something?

  I have been using compressor at the moment to render out 720×576 and gets the render at the correct aspect ratio, but this doesnt solve the export issue from FCP

  Please let me know if i am doing something wrong? I am very new to FCP

  Hi Christine,

  It could be that when you play the clip in Quicktime it’s displaying your video with square pixels.
  Try this:
  Open in Quicktime and press Command+J
  Highlight the row that says ‘Video Track’ and then under the Visual Settings menu un-tick ‘Preserve Apsect Ratio’
  Change frame size to 1024 x 576

  That should display a 16×9 video. However, if you need to re-import it to FCP it won’t display correctly unless you change the settings in Quicktime back to 720×576.

  Hi there Alex.
  Firstly, thanks so much for your help. I really really appreciate it.
  Your solution is great for presenting a QT movie at the correct aspect ratio.
  But I think I was more after a solution in Final Cut.
  Let me explain:
  We shot some RED footage at 3K resolution 2:1 aspect ratio.
  (Square Pixels to the best of my knowledge) We need to output to PAL at 720 x 576. Obviously this footage was shot with bars for 4:3 so we framed it correctly. We now need to scale down. But clients being clients its not just scaling down as they now want to move the footage around and zoom in at various times. A bit of a pain but….
  The actual question is:
  Should the sequence settings then be:
  Frame Size: 720 x 576 (CCIR 601/ DV PAL 5:4)or should it be PAL 4:3 (which then changes from 720 x 576 of course as the pixels are square)
  and Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square.
  I hope this all makes sense.
