    MacBook Pro 2.5GHz, 4GB Ram
Trial version of DVD Achitect Pro 5
    Final Cut Studio
    LG BE06 external BluRay burner

I’m treading cautiously through murky waters…
The goal: delivery of HDV wedding on BluRay.
    Obstacle: BluRay authoring software
Adobe Encore? Bad reviews and too expensive.
I’ve created a test project in DVD Architect. It won’t burn but it did create an .iso file.

    Questions:
    Is the trial version crippled?
Can I expect to successfully burn BD with DVD Architect once it’s paid for? Or rather, is there anyone out there using the same set-up as me making BDs?
What about Toast 9 and the HD plug-in?
If DVD Architect will operate fine alone then I’d prefer not buying Toast.

Can you make a disc image? If so then burn image with toast. This is how I do it in Encore.

    Thanks Warren!

I did what you said successfully!

Now that I’m able to view the edit via BD there arise more questions:

    1) What is the maximum bit rate permissible for BD playback? My test was the default 18. Some of the slow motion in my edit looked choppy. I understand that the cause is likely in the edit but I want to try other things before going back and adjusting in Final Cut.

    2) Is my authoring software re-encoding despite my earlier step of exporting from FCP timeline via Compressor with BluRay settings(m2v)?
It took a long time to create that .iso file in DVD Architect.

I think I have a lot of experimenting to do.

[lucas cheadle] “Adobe Encore? Bad reviews and too expensive.”

Yes, stay very VERY far away from Encore on the Mac.

We’re now using NetBlender’s DoStudio and have already created our first title with pop-up menus and other functionality. Awesome product and I highly recommend it. It requires a Windows machine however. We have an HP Workstation dedicated to that app.

40mbps combined for audio and video is the maximum for blu-ray.

you could easily bump that 18 to 35

    It’s actually 40 mb/s for video and 48 audio/video combined.

ah, thats right, the bitrate limit on BD is 50 max.

DVD Architect Pro won’t let the bit rate get above 28. The parameters go up to 40 but an error occurs during the build.

    Thanks Walter!
I’m disappointed in my BluRay HD results so far. The picture looks grainy, like super fine pointillism, A Sunday At The Park?
    I don’t know if it’s something I can control.

    Here are the facts:
    Canon XHA1 HDV
    Captured HDV 1080i60
Exported variously (ProRes,ProResHQ, m2v for BluRay in Compressor)
Authored in DVD Architect Pro 5 set to m2v compression… currently rendering a test using the AVC option.

Up to now this company I work for has shot HDV and downconverted to DV at capture. They wanted to try the HD BluRay route.

What about Toast? Does that allow higher datarates?

We haven’t seen anything like that. Our BluRays look pretty much identical to their DVCPro HD and HDV originals. Quite spectacular actually and now DoStudio is allowing us to creating some pretty cool menus and controls too.
