  • Frame Size Blow Up In Final Cut?

Posted by Peter Dunphy on September 25, 2008 at 8:30 pm

    Hi

I have filmed a wedding on my Canon XH A1 (hi-def) in the 1440 X 1080 Frame size.

I had another 3 chip cam running also as backup, which taped the wedding in a 720 X 576 Frame size. This cam has actually grabbed some decent wide angle shots I would like to cutaway to from time to time.

Is there anything I can do in Final Cut to ‘blow up’ the 720 X 576 Frame size to match the other cam’s 1440 X 1080 Frame size please?

I was thinking of simply using Mpeg Streampclip to ‘blow up’ the clip to the bigger frame size, before simply importing that ‘blown-up’ file into final Cut Pro.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

have you tried the scale function in the motion tab in the viewer?

Simple way…adjust the SCALE option in the MOTION tab of the clip. Cut it into the sequence, double click on it to open it in the viewer, then adjust the SCALE.

But for better results use COMPRESSOR and the ADVANCED FORMAT CONVERSIONS. Convert it to the same frame size and codec as the other HD footage. THis will take longer…but will look better. But convert it to ProRes or DVCPRO HD…not HDV.

I have a similar situation, but three different cameras with three different frame sizes. I want to get them to the same size so that I can edit them using the multiclip function. These are the frame sizes that I am working with:
    1920×1080 (XD CAM)
    1440×1080 (HDV)
    720×480 (MiniDV 16:9 matted)

I don’t mind losing the edges on the XDCAM footage. The MiniDV footage is not crucial since it was basically shot as a backup and doesn’t match in quality to the rest. However, I’d like to incorporate it as well in the process to cover a couple of spots. Do I bring in each clip separately in Compressor for this? Which size should I aim for? The 1440×1080 would be good enough for me. I already created auxiliary matching timecode for all clips. Thanks for any advice on this!!
