From a little test of a Compound Path in Illustrator (3 paths converted to a Compound Path), I Copied the Compound Path in Illustrator, then Pasted into an AE solid layer, you get three masks, the same ones that were combined into the Compound mask.

It depends on what you want to do with the Compound Path, now three masks.

If you’re using them as masks you can get many different combinations depending on the Mask Mode you use for each, how the masks cut out the objects. See AE Help for details.

If you’re applying Effects to the masks, it depends on the Effect, some, like Vegas will do one mask at a time, so you’d need three instances (in my example) of Vegas applied to that layer, each set to a different mask. Some effects will do All Masks, like Stroke.

What are you trying to do?
