Just throwing this out there. I have Cleaner 6.5, Quicktime Pro and of course Compressor. Anyone out there having better results with something else for Video Encoding. I would love to hear your thoughts.

maybe a new purchase of software is in my future.

    thanks in advance.

What type of specific encoding are you looking to do?

I have a numnber of 2 min videos that are posted on websites.

they want me to send them 10mb or less files. Right now using quicktime pro but figured there has to be something else better out there now.

most of the time size is 16×9 no letterbox.

Eclipse Pro (not cheap) is a highly recommended piece of encoding software. Compressor is better than QT Pro (in fact just about any else is)

Most Pro software gets pricy but it allows for much higher quality at strong compression rates (smaller files with better quality is the main goal.)

Right now H.264 is the golden child of codecs and then for embedded video you got Flash. OF course this comes down to want the client wants to post.

we use sorenson squeeze quite a bit, but you should be able to get excellent results from compressor by customizing the settings. adjusting frame controls often dramatically improves stuff (and takes about year to render).

My thought is you should do a search of this forum and the compression techniques forum. It’s been asked, and answered, dozens of times (and very recently too). My opinion: Episode is very good, Squeeze is good, but I’ve had occassional various problems with it (popping audio, and gamma issues). I think Episode is the best all around encoder.

What I find works best and is the fastest is I make droplets of the exact settings I want [in Compressor] – and all I do is drag my files onto the droplets, and Compressor makes the files in a fraction of the time of QT pro.

Furthermore, you can drag multiple clips onto the droplet and they export as a batch – so, no having to futz with individual clips.

And finally, I’ve got my Compressor set up with Qmaster to harness the processors of multiple computers, so it takes exponentially fast, too.

I make a ton of compressed videos every day, so this works well for me.

And then there is this, which looks quite interesting, but I haven’t tried it:

    Doug,

16×9 is an aspect ratio, not a size, what size and file type do you want?

BTW I think Episode Pro is by far the best compression tool within the reach of most folks. To do better, you would need some VERY expensive hardware.

    Have a wonderful day.

size i need to achieve, 10 mb files size or less, is
320 x 180 in either quicktime or WMV.

    thanks,
