Without a doubt, Episode Pro…. It’s an extremely powerful app that makes the best use of whatever processor config you have while allowing for infinitesimal changes to encoding parameters ( if that’s what you so desire) It also has a terrific set of templates that work amazingly well for those people that just want “Great” right out of the box…

    5 Stars…..

    have you tried flip4mac?
Its a $99 plug in that gives FCP the ability to export wmv files “natively”.
They have a demo that locks you to :30 seconds, but you can test the quality (and estimate file size).
I’ve had good results with it.

[doug branch] “Anyone out there having better results with something else for Video Encoding. I would love to hear your thoughts”

BitVice from innobits. Best encoder we’ve used, especially for DVD’s. Quality is equal to commercial DVD’s we purchase and it’s a great price.

I like BitVice too, but it really makes lousy QTs and WMVs. 🙂

    Another (new) alternative:
    https://www.mainconcept.com/site/prosumer-products-4/mainconcept-reference-20373/information-20393.html?L=0

Though I never used mainconcept much since we migrated from PC to Mac. But it was “the” encoder for the PC-platform. its now vailable for mac too.
We encoded DVDs with that software ten years ago with far better results than compressor today, imho.
Epsiode and lately cinemacraft (for Mpeg encoding only) look promising too

I think the best video encoder is Flash to Video Encoder Pro, because it’s very useful, helpful, simple to use, no problem with sound and video, by the same this prog has trial version without time limit!I tested it, and like it so much.

    Hi Ed,

    Pleased that you like BitVice.

I must say am a bit puzzled why you say: “but it really makes lousy QTs and WMVs”

That is because BitVice does not do any QTs or WMVs, AT ALL, only MPEG-2 video files, so you have to find the lousiness somewhere else. Did you use an MPEG-2 compliant decoder/player?
Maybe I could help if I knew what you used for viewing the .m2v files from BitVice.

Well, if you followed the whole thread, the question was what’s the best encoder for
QTs and WMVs. Walter said he liked BitVice, hence my joke (see the smiley face?)
