I have FCP 4.5 on a G4 dual-800 and trying to capture video from my DSR-11 deck. Never had any issues until now. I have timecode and can control the deck in the Log & Capture window but no picture. When I open FCP I get the message: Unable to locate the following external devices: Apple Firewire NTSC (720×480). Under My Computer the deck shows up under Hardware/Firewire. I made sure all my settings are correct. I took the deck and same firewire cable & hooked it up to my laptop (Tiger 10.4.11 with FCP 4.5) and it works fine. For what it’s worth I recently loaded Tiger on the G4 and downloaded all the updates so it should be the same as my laptop. One other thing: When I open Toast 6 Titanium and then turn on the deck Toast shuts down. If I have the deck already on and click on Toast it pops up for a second and shuts down. I just used this last week with no problem. Is it possible that loading Tiger did something? I appreciate whatever help you can pass on. Thanks!

Hmmm…i am having the same problem. Just rented a DSR-11 deck to capture 5 client DV tapes. I have machine control from FCP (tape shuttles no problem), but no pix or sound in FCP, and the viewer window has color bars and “Preview Disabled”. I’ve tried several different setup options to no avail. Let me know if you hear anything, as I will you.

    thanks again!

Doh! The head of bone strikes again! As I ejected the miniDV tape that was in the deck, i looked closer to find that it was an HDV tape! Took the deck back to the rental house with me tail between me legs, and got an HDV camcorder for capture. Now flying along. Hopefully you will get your problem solved soon…

    thanks again!
