I have to mask a lot of things for a movie I am doing, so I downloaded a 50-point plug-in to get as precise as possible.

I used it to cut out a small jagged hole in a clip. I put a picture beneath that clip, and it was showing up fine UNTIL I RENDERED!

I tried messing with the filter features, and the compositing modes, but as soon as it finished rendering THE CLIP WOULD APPEAR AS A BLACK SCREEN. I thought that maybe it was the plug-in, and tried the 8-point garbage matte, but the same thing happened.

Is there a setting I need to change? What can I do to make these masks work?

If you need to animate the mask, you’d be much better off doing this in Motion, AE, Combustion, Shake or Silhouette Roto. If you don’t need to animate the mask, then use Photoshop.

FCP’s garbage mattes are very low powered, and those 36 & 50 point freebies are pretty sucky.

I was originally going to use Motion 3, but lately, every time I bring a clip into it and add behaviors or filters it just freezes or crashes.

I guess it was really that FCP was being iffy with me. It suddenly started working today (the computer was on all night though). It actually came out pretty good.

    Thanks for the help.
