  Aspect ratio

  Hello,

  I’m editing in FCP. My sequence is 720×480 with 3:2 for aspect ratio.
  I export a mp4 who is imported by someone else in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 on Windows.
  It looks stretched because the sequence settings are 720×480 4:3.
  As far I now 4:3 is for 720×486. I checked on Premiere Pro manual and they don’t talk about 3:2 aspect ratio, only 4:3. The guy on Premiere told me he cannot modify the aspect ratio, even by creating a new project. Anyone has an idea? Who is right FCP with 3:2 or Premiere with 4:3.

  They’re the same. They just use different terminology. DV in NTSC is 720×480 whether you call it 3:2 or 4:3. It always uses 0.9 pixel aspect ratio.

  Thanks Tom. the fact is that then my mp4 is imported in Premiere Pro CS3 it’s increased about 7% more.
  That come from the difference of settings.

  720×480 is the DV aspect ratio using the CCIR601 pixel aspect of 0.9. MPEG-4 uses a square pixel aspect ratio. It’s not a production format. You do not want to send .mp4 to Premiere for editing.
