We are a commercial shop and are going to HD, We’ve had a project come through and to view the footage and animations we’ve done we have had to go out of shop to view it in HD. Basically what we are looking for is to be able to drop 1080 footage into FCP and view it on a HD monitor. We realize that we need to to upgrade from the ground up. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    George

FInd a good Value Added Reseller in your area and have them build a system for you. Where are you located?

Meaning that Canadians are slow to respond? Or does your internet just SUCK up there?

Don’t know about the internet, but I know they drink a TON of coffee up in Vancouver! 🙂 Woo I’m ready to move up there between the beauty of the place and the endless coffee houses.

The easy answer is get an AJA Kona 3 as long as you have a Mac Pro. As for editing, depending on the flavor of HD you’re cutting, you’ll want a nice media array. I use the MaxxDigital EVO HD series and Dulce, Sonnett, Ciprico and Facilis are other arrays I recommend.

For viewing, I love the new TV Logic LCD displays, expensive, but beautiful. We’ll hopefully be getting some in the near future after we build the new shop.

Shane’s suggestion to find a good VAR in your area is the best one as each person’s situation is unique. Having someone local to spec and then stand behind their gear will be invaluable.
