Optical Bay Hard Drive
Hey folks, Just got my new Mac Pro (finally) and I am loading it up with Western Digital TB drives ($169 each- had to get 4) I was amazed at how easy it was to load 3 of the drives and when I tried to mount one in the second optical bay, I noticed that it takes some rigging or maybe a cage.. Not as straight forward as the old G4…. easier to get to, but not as obvious to mount the drive….
So is there a cage or a secret mounting technique somebody has discovered that they could share…
I am thinking about making a cage out of old PC parts,,, but there must be a simple route to this, after all it is a Mac…

I knew it was out there somewhere. That is what I like about the COW…. Somebody always remembers the “inventory” better than you… So just “COW IT” and go to bed….. Why stay up for another 4 hours…
I was planning on buying the memory from Transintl also… I just needed to check the accounts before I over spend the bank.. Didn’t know they had the “sled”…. thanks for the tip
So what is the value to 16 over 8 over 4 gigs of ram on the 3.2 Octo core?
Wally B. always suggest 4 gigs.. But he did say he was getting a new 3.2 so I wonder if he stayed at 4 or splurged on 8gb of ram…
I am moving from a 4 year old G4 Dual gig….. so I am trying to find the value point on souping up this 3.2 power monster…

4GB would be a minimum for an older machine. With the Octo Core you want 8GB as the minimum. 1GB per core as noted by Gary Adcock on a thread recently.

On an 8-core, you’ll want a minimum of 8GB…

but did you say in that thread that you are running 10gb of ram… What combination did you use? 2-four gig modules and the stock 2-one gig modules? I thought I had read where you need to keep all the ram the same size in matched pairs…. filling a minimum of the first two slots on both ram cards…

Yep, that’s what you’re supposed to do. I ordered an 8GB Upgrade kit (2 4GB modules) and decided to just leave the original 2GB in there and see how it works out. So far it’s working so I left it all in there. If I have any RAM issues in the future, I’ll pull the original 2GB out.
