Adjusting video dissolve but not the audio dissolve?
Let’s say on the front of a clip I’ve added both audio and video cross dissolves. Now I want to change the length of the video dissolve without changing the length of the audio dissolve. About the only way I can figure out how to do that is to lock the tracks of the audio dissolve and then change the video dissolve. This seems harder that it should be. Does anyone know any other tricks?

There’s few things in life I truly hate, and this is one of them.
What I do is unlink the timeline (shift-l) make the adjustment, then relink the timeline.

What drives me crazy about it is that by holding the option key down I can change the length of the audio or video track without effecting the other. So logically, this should would with the dissolves, but no.
I just wanted to check to see if I was missing something before I submitted feedback to Apple. Here’s hoping for a change it 6.0.4:)

Great question! I’ve really wanted start throwing things in the edit room over this.
I was hoping I was just missing something also. Thanks for putting to rest the thought in my head of “There must be an easier way to do this, I just don’t know/can’t find it”.

Just in case you missed it, Shift-L, make the adjustment, then Shift-L again.
I agree though, hitting option should take care of this.

Shift-l unlink’s the timeline, or as Kevin Monahan corrected me the other day, it’s really called ‘Linked Selection’. Apple-L unlinks individual clips, shift-l is an overriding unlink from any subsequent selection. Even if the clips are married, if the timeline is unlinked, you will only select the audio or the video and not both. If linked selection is deselected, you won’t have to hold option to separately select audio or video of any given clip.
Toggle shift-l and you will see the little icon turn on and off at the top right of your timeline. That’s the linked selection button.
Does that make sense? I feel that was kind of a mouthful.

It does work — you use the option key to select *only* the dissolve you want, either audio or video,
..then to adjust the video dissolve you hit Control-D and you get a Duration dialog.
Or to adjust the audio dissolve you just hit the Enter key on the keypad and you get a Duration dialog.
Just enter the duration you want;
but obviously yes dragging the edge of the transition doesn’t work as it should WRT option key

I was wrong. Wow that really is stupid. Even if you add the transitions separately, like using Command-T and then Command-Option-T, once there is a transition on both the audio and the video it wants to adjust them together.
That is simply an oversight in the interaction design I think. They can tweak that, they should
