Redigitizing multiclips
All right, I’ve looked around and found lots of people who think there is nothing wrong with the multiclip editing, and others who think it’s al broken. Here’s what happened to me.
I did an offline edit at DV resolution from beta masters. It was a one camera shoot of a performance, so I made a timeline with all the different takes, cut off the “ends” so that all tracks are the same length, make a subclip of each track, then I made the subclips multiclips. Everything works fine through the offline, but then every-time I try to use media manager to create the offline to hi-res, I get a dialog box that says “general error can not link (clip name) to multiclip”, and in the new project the multiclips stay online. O.K. I thought I’ll just re-digitize the multiclips in the new project, well first it digitized way way too much footage that where not in the multiclips, then I got the same error, only this time FC deleted some of the original DV footage from the hardrive and took the multiclips offline. After trying a second time to redig them (by doing the individual clips) some of them became 1 frame clips in the timeline and that one frame that was left wasn’t even the right one.
I’ve had this problem with several different projects lately on three different systems, So I guess I’m wondering if anyone has re-digitized a project using media manager with multiclips successfully or not?

Try COLLAPSING your multiclips before you media manage. This will get rid of the multi-clip in the timeline, and leave only the angle you used.

Ohh I probably should have mentioned that I did do that. I’ve had it happen to me with collapsing, and without.

i’ve only limited and observational experience with this,
but i would say it;s just a bad idea to use subclips in a multiclip.

what are your media manager settings?
this could be a simple matter of you not deleting the unused,
also remember to un-tick all the boxes that say “include”if you also un-tick the “include muliclip angles,
then the resulting offline sequence should have no multiclips at all.(remember a collapsed multiclip is still a multiclip: it can be un-collapsed at any time.
if all else fails you could use EDLs, i guess.

Sorry it took so long to get back, but once this nightmare project ended I left town for a few days. I have tried just about every-way to export a sequence with multiclips in it out of MM and still have had no luck finding a reliable way to redigitizing it successfully. I talk to someone at apple today and basically he just admitted that MM and complex sequences (he knew more problems than I did) just gets really buggy (for instance uncheking “include multiclip angles still made parts of the “new” sequence with multiclips in it disappear).
