  Apple ProRes 422 file extension

  I was doing some organizing of contents of my hard drives and realized that my ProRes clips do not have a file extensions, and it isn’t hidden in the “get info” window either, is this a new practice from apple, just not assigning file extensions. A cataloging software I use doesn’t want to recognize it and was wondering if anyone else had encountered this previously. I have added an screen shot to help explain.

  Wes,
  This have been changing with the different FC versions. FC 6.0.3 sets the extension.
  Also the FC movies are set to be open with FC. In the screen shoot that you send I can see that you have the file to be open with QT Player. I guess you are with FC5.1.x

  Well, maybe my copy of FC 6.0.3 is not functioning properly then. Do you know if there is a preference I can set somewhere to have the extensions be in place?

  No really.
  This may b something related with the File Finder Info. Do you use DiskWarrior?

  No, no disk warrior, Its not a big deal I was just trying to figure out this little quirk, I found a way to work with what I have, Thanks for responding.

  This has nothing to do with FCP and everything to do with OSX. Leopard reduced (although not completely eliminated) the requirement of extensions on all files. It’s beginning to use logs to identify files instead of extensions. Different versions of 10.5 will have different extension requirements and to make things even more confusing, it isn’t the same across the board. 10.5.3 will have different requirements than 10.5.2.

  As you have figured out, you’ll just have to find a workaround
