Transitions and Outer Glow Filter
Whenever I use the Outer Glow filter on a clip, the characteristic of the glow changes to any portion that has also has a transition on it.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, do you have a fix?

Try nesting the clips with the transition before applying the Glow filter.

By nesting, you are reversing the order of the render pipeline. That’s why it works that way. I wrote a little chunk about this in my book.

Yep. Page 297 where I describe how to do this via nesting. You have to do the same thing in After Effects and Motion as well.
The render order of effects in FCP is:
1. Speed
2. Filters
3. Motion Effects
4. Motion Blur
5. Opacity
6. TransitionsIf you have an effect that is not having the right appearance, likely you have to trick the render order via nesting.
I wrote MGEFCP to have staying power with techniques drawn from FCP’s core. It is still very relevant to FCP 6–the project file is working fine and all the info is still current.
I think it’s a good primer to fx in general and would be very helpful to editors that want to live within the app more often, rather than having to jump to Motion all the time.
