By clicking on a clip in the timeline and hitting shift-F, you can find the clips master clip in the browser, but when you drag a marker from the browser to the timeline, and then highlight that (subclip) and hit Shift-F, FCP won’t find the marker or master clip in the browser for you. Is there a different way to do this?

only way is to make a subclip from your marker(s)
open the triangle of the clip with the marker in the browser – highlight the marker – select ‘make subclip’ from the Modify menu (I think).

Now you have a subclip that behaves exactly like a master clip.

The length of the subclip from the marker depends on:
if you have a marker with a length – that will be the length of the subclip
If not – either to the next marker or if no further marker to the end of the clip.
