  HDV Footage into HD & SD Timelimes

  I have to digitize several HDV tapes off a Sony FX-1 in to FCP 6.0.2. I am wondering what is the best codec and specs to use based on the following montages/timelines that I need to create from this footage:
  TIMELINE 1 needs to be an HD quicktime for broadcast on an HD channel. (They want a QT that is 720p 30. 59.94 48 khz).
  TIMELINE 2, same montage, needs to be down-converted to SD Quicktime for broadcast (8 bit uncompressed .mov). CAN I PROTECT THE SHOTS SHOT FOR 16×9, OR DO I NEED TO CROP? OR WILL LETTERBOX DO IT FOR ME?
  Another longer timeline of the same footage, TIMELINE 3, needs to be added into an existing SD 16×9 Timeline, and made into a DVD (thru DVD Studio Pro) for display on an HD monitor.
  TIMELINE 4 needs to be a Beta copy of the Raw Footage as a B-roll tape.

  I would suggest digitizing to either ProRes or DVCPROHD, then editing every sequence at HD. From there you should either downconvert in software or use a Kona 3 for output to beta.

  Your question about how to deal with 16×9 in SD is really up to you and your client. You can either go anamorphic, cropped, or letterboxed. It’s up to you.

  Can’t digitize with either… With the Camera as the deck, the only option I can actually capture is CAPTURE PRESET: HDV and DEVICE CONTROL PRESET: Sony HDV Firewire, which makes 1440 x 1080 29.97 fps HDV 1080i60.

  What should the sequence preset be?

  So can I use that and export a quicktime as 720p 30 from that?
