    Hey guys,

I just got a brand new macbookpro laptop and FCPSTUDIO 2.

I hate going on edit jobs without my software. I do a lot of on set work. I am just very paranoid of taking my discs with me.

What is the best way to make a backup copy of my software. I am pretty sure I can do this in a legit way. I jsut spend 1300 bucks on this heavy box of like, 5 dvds.

any info on this, would rock. thanks.

Get yourself a small bus powered drive that’s the same capacity as your internal HD and clone you drive before every trip. Not only do you have a backup of your apps, you’ll have a bootable clone in case sh*t really hits the fan.

Use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the drive. The first time takes a while, but if you use either program’s smart update features, every subsequent clone will go lickiity split.

Backing up your complete HD is really what you want to do in your situation as Jeremy describes but backup up the actual install DVDs is not a bad idea. I do this also and I just use Toast’s Copy feature, it copies the DVD to the HD then to a blank DVD.

Just make disk images of them, and store the images on a hard drive, much easier man.

The discs aren’t worth 1200 bucks, your serial number is.

You can find anyone with FCP install disks to use them to install and then you key in your serial number.

If you are really paranoid about it, zrb’s suggestion is solid.

personally i prefer to make DVD copies.
i suspect they’ll last longest than a hard drive.

or you can be belts and braces about the whole thing and have both.
