Best open timeline for mixing DVCAM w/DVCPRO HD
Hi to all.
We’re in the middle of editing a project where we need to combine DVCAM footage with 720p/24PN/60fps and 1080i/60 inserts (all inserts were shot with an HVX200 and brought into FCP6 via P2Store). Since most of the footage in the edit is DVCAM and we’re ouputting to SD DVD, here’s the open timeline we chose:
– DV/DVCPRO NTSC
– 720×480
– D1/DV pixels
– 29.97 fps
– Lower field
– Render all YUV material in high precision YUV w/motion tab filtering set to “best” (this for when we color correct)However, we’re not very happy with the way the HD shots are resized on the open timeline. There’s some minor aliasing in the HD clips, and while the slo-mo shots look good, they’re not as slick as I had hoped for. There’s some minor stuttering in the video.
Any suggestions? Should we be using different settings for our Open Timeline, or are we stuck with doing it this way?
What about color correction? We’re planning on upressing to DVCPRO50, Uncompressed 8-bit or 10-bit, or ProRes422 and mastering to DVD from there. Which one works best?
Any pointers are highly appreciated. 😉
Thx in advance
Aaron
