Capturing while watching Youtube
I don’t know how reliable FCP 6 is but I remember when ever you batch capture, you couldn’t
really or shouldn’t do anything else on the computer.Would it be a good idea if you’re capturing while surfing on the web or even watching videos online? I wouldn’t recommend it but does the old rule still apply?

Personally if I am capturing video, then that is ALL that that computer douse. if you need to do something else on a computer at the same time then I say use another computer.

Capturing is not a hard job for your computer, basically is just to write. You can use the Activity monitor to see howmuch CPU is useing. However when I’m capturing, rendering or compressing I try to avoid open other applications. I surf the web or use Photoshop and listen music while capturing or rendering but I open those application before to start the capturing or rendering.
With a Mac a bit OK you shoud’t have any problem. However if you can see how many things together can do a Big Mac, have a look to this interesting web-site:https://www.barefeats.com/octopro5.html

Not exactly true. Some codecs are very processor intensive….just ask anyone who has tried to capture ProRes on a G5.

If you want to get nit-picky yer not “capturing” ProRes you are transcoding from another codec into ProRes in real time. I’d imagine capturing ProRes via the AJA box that does the conversion in hardware is pretty painless for the computer itself.
