When I press Capture Now … a little preview box comes up for a second and then it goes away. The clip name in the capture menu changes from “clip” to “Clip1,” but there is no captured clip in the bin.

Okay, I have an unorthodox set up. I have a DAT Machine, running through a converter box to get a firewire input to my computer. I have the video turned off and all the sampling rates matched. I can see the audio coming in on the levels in FCP. Nonetheless when I hot captre now I get nothing … any ideas?

Are you using a non-controllable device preset?

    All the best,

Always make sure you have a clean, stable video signal running into your converter box when you capture in FCP, even if you don’t digitize it. So if your audio is coming from a DAT, you’ll need to find another video source to put in to the converter. A lot of decks will output black if you set it to standby, so that might be your best option if you don’t have a BB

OTherwise, Soundtrack Pro might be able to digitize without a video source

Does your DAT machine have an optical digital output? If so, use the digital input of your Mac (Power PC or MacPro) to capture your music. Using Firewire will require a video source as well.
