  Brodcast monitor 3000K, 6500K or 9300k

  I was hoping that somebody could shed some light on what white point to set my monitor to when color correcting, 3000K, 6500K or 9300K? Why do these settings exist?

  REC709 has a D65 white point, which is very closet o 6500k. 9300k is for the Japanese who like a different white point than we do. No idea what 3000k is for….

  3000K can be handy if you are using the actual monitor within a shot, as a prop or an over the shoulder source on a news set, while shooting in a studio situation. The other settings will result in an overly blue image if shot with a camera that is setup for 3200K white balance. I don’t know if this is the actual use for which the 3000K setting was designed…but it works for a studio setup.

  3000 would be close to 3200K which is tungsten balance, so it would be better if you were shooting with that stock. I have to wonder if it would be good as a “projector” white point for film…
