I’m trying to log and capture footage onto my iMac G5 Final Cut Pro 4 program –
I can see the video playback in the LOG AND CAPTURE window, and I see it again when i hit “NOW” to capture the clip – however, between 15-30 seconds later (each time) the following message pops up on my screen:

“Dropped frames were detected during the last capture attempt”

This happens every time – I’ve tried playback from my SONY DV Camera as well as my SONY GV-D200 8mm/HI-8 playback deck – same problem on both. No glitches on the tapes –

Please, how can I solve this issue? – is there a setting I need to adjust on Final Cut?

    Thanks!
    Ben

This typically happens when one is capturing to their system drive, either by accident or because they did not know better. Is that what you’re doing?

This will also happen if you’re capturing to a drive that is too slow to keep up with the necessary data rate that is required to stream your media for capture. You should be using at least a 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Firewire 400 drive.

How exactly do I do all that? I’ve also received a message that says my scratch disk is almost full – i guess i’m not as Mac-savvy as I thought – please help – I don’t even know where to adjust the drive for 7200 RPM etc…
    Thanks!

Yep, I guess I didn’t know better – how can I fix this?
