the message that comes up says

“capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. this could be due to a problem with the tape. capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved.”

with any tape i use, i tried ten different ones, with any camera i hook up, i tried seven different ones. come on, i can’t be the first guy this happens to? please help out! my final project is due tomorrow, i kid you not.

    thanks, people.

I’m sorry, I do not know the answer to your question. I am pretty new to Final Cut and I’m learning, myself. But if I had run the tests you ran, I would conclude that you have eliminated source tape and source deck as a problem. I would concentrate on the computer. I don’t know much about the capture settings yet but perhaps that could be an issue. Also, want kind of drive are you capturing to? Have you captured to that disk successfully in the past. Can you plug in a different drive and try that? This sounds hardware-ish to me. Sorry I’m not better informed. I wish you good luck.

Not too sure about the details to your problem but here are a few suggestions that might be of help:

    1. Check if the deck or camera that using plays the tape fine on playback mode. (if you recorded on long play, then things will get a little complicated)
    2. Log and Capture – set capture device to non-controlable and capture settings to that which is revelant to the tape format.
    3. press play on the deck and hit record now on FCP. capture the whole tape into your system.

Hope that it helps. Btw, editing for tmr simply don’t work, regardless of how little or much you have to do.
    cheers!

Did you check all your settings to make sure they match what you are capturing? Also did you try to toss the preferences?

yes, this is a very likely solution. make sure video capture settings match the setting of what you’re capturing.

    What version of FCP?

    What version of OSX?

    What camera model?

    What format video?

What drive have you designated as your scratch?
