• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  HD outout

  I’ve edited my movie on Final Cut Pro HD in NTSC outside the US. It’s come time to output it to HD tape. We have rendered 10 minute pieces so that the machine will have “to think” less — the intention being to use the insert function of the HD recorder and bring it all together like that. But it won’t play. It hangs up at a different place every time. Is this a compression issue? RAM issue? Hard drive storage space issue? Suggestions?

  Walter is correct… we need more info.

  The big issue seems to be what computer do you have? It sounds like that you may be using a G4 if your still running FCP HD. If so, the G4’s are quite up to spec for HD work and will have problems working with it, even DVCProHD has issues with the G4.

  I had similar issues with my G4 (which is now a compressor station) on a DV project that was an hour and half long. I had to break it up into 10 minute segments to write to tape. I was using FCP HD 4.5 at the time.

  Thanks for your input on my output. It’s a G4 (or 5, I’m really not sure — it’s a dedicated editing machine purchased about a year ago.) We experimented today and wound up bypassing Final Cut Pro and playing the rendered movie directly off the Black Magic card. This works 95% of the time. The 5% will kill us when we output unless we output and insert like crazy on the HD recorder. Is the Black Magic card calibrated fine enough to go to the exact time code frame?

  Somebody else looking at the problem is convinced we don’t have enough band width on our hard drive array. The movie is about 600 gigs. We have a terabyte of storage space.
