So I set the project to 720 24p in easy setup. I did the advanced pulldown in the p2 import from my firestore drive (ver. 2.03 firmware – shot this footage before I upgraded to 3.0). The footage goes directly onto the sequence with no rendering and the sequence is of course 24p – my question is – why is the frame rate in the viewer counting 60? Does it matter?

Because you initially shot at 60fps, and removed frames (removed the pulldown) when you imported the footage. If you look closely at the numbers, they skip as frames are missing.
