I’ve seen some rumblings on the web about the next versionof Final Cut. I also heard that Apple may put out two versions of our wonderful program in the form of an “Adrenaline-like” Pro version and a not-so-Pro version that is very much like 5.0 with fixes. One thing that has been speculated is that the version that will compete with Adrenaline will cost about $10K for software and will require the latest hardware that Apple sells as well. I guess 5.0 came out in May 2005 so we are probably due for a release in advance of NAB in April. Has anyone heard anything? I’ve searched the news section of Apple’s website and they are curiously mum about it.

I figure that Walter Biscardi is already working the kinks out of the beta version as I write.

Thanks Walter. How would I find that? I’ve searched under the obvious topics and nothing came up that addressed Final Cut 6.0. I did see a humorous exchange from about a year ago regarding pigs and such.

I guess I was looking for information from APPLE that would be more or less official. The Apple folks are particularly voiceless about a subject that everyone in the business is curious about. I know that AVID frequently will announce plans to develop “thus and such” or various new anticipated software releases in advance of them coming out. But Apple seems VERY reluctant to even admit they are working on this stuff. Obviously I would like to know for budgeting purposes and would like to know if I have to purchase a new machine with the new software. I’m about 16 months into my last hardware purchase and did not want to purchase new hardware more often than every 2 years or so. But that might not be possible if 6.0 / Extreme comes out sooner.

that’s the way Apple works, they will release information when they are ready. With NAB that usually means an Apple Event on the Sunday prior to the show opening. Though last year that did not happen.

    Richard,

The very same thing was discussed adnausium at this time last year after supposedly being “leaked” on the MACRUMOR site. It was supposed to be the hot thing at NAB 2006. In case you missed the announcement then, so did everyone else… So, don’t lose too much sleep over the matter and don’t expect Walter to give away any trade secrets either. If he did know he couldn’t tell you, and if he did tell you he’d have to kill you.

I’d imagine there will be a new version of FCP annoucned at NAB. ver5 has been around for a long time now. But an Extreme version – I wouldn’t hold my breath, but it would be very welcome. A adreneline based media composer has a lot of great built-in tools that run circles around FCP.

Re: the multiple versions. Apple seems to like to leave that stuff to Windows and Avid.

Which version of Vista is right for you? Take our helpful quiz.

Would you say you are an email sender, or receiver?
Do you like to burn discs, or listen to them?
When you view web pages, are you more interested in pictures, or text?
Do you think navigating through 17 layers of menus to use a calculator is fun?

Congratulations, you’re just $350 and 3 gigs of Ram away from VISTA ULTIMATE! And as a special bonus, we’ll render all previous installations of our OS “XP”useless and illegal! Don’t forget to check out our newest widgets…errrr… Gadgets, especially our new PROductivity Gadget, a real time compiler showing you just how much time (in years) you’ll spend trying to use things like, printers, web cameras, wireless cards, and more! Act now and we’ll even throw in, NO DRIVERS!

Window Vista Ultimate. The Ultimate High Maintinance Operating System.

God bless my one version of Tiger…
